Books for Early/Emergent Readers

Series are a great way for new readers to get hooked on reading.  Don't miss these new classics.  They're perfect for kids to read together with parents, or to read alone when they're ready.  Click on the links to check out book related stuff!  Make sure you scroll to the bottom of this page to see everything.

Mo Willems remains the master of the early reader genre.

Benny & Penny books are in comic format,
providing excellent visuals to support readers.

Cowgirl Kate and her cowhorse Cocoa are ready to ride!
A boy named Buzz finds a pet fly, and the
series takes flight from there.  Silly stuff!

Twins Ting & Ling prove they are NOT
the same time and again.

Meet Penny, an energetic young mouse, and her family in the new series by Kevin Henkes.
From wiggly teeth to the loss of beloved pets, the Katie Woo series by Fran Manushkin is full of relatable stories featuring a spunky, stylish main character.

Friendship and teamwork are the themes in this sweet series by Wong Yee.

And some books never get old.  Here are some true classics that beg not to be forgotten.

Frog & Toad books by Arnold Lobel
Nothing beat the antics of this hippo pair for me.  Comic and dear, James Marshall's books hit the spot.

There are so many more great choices!  It's hard for me to stop.  If you know of a series I've left off, please share it below in the comments so others can track it down.  Happy reading!

P.S. Goodreads has an extensive list of books for emergent readers, too.
